HATHA YOGA

The class consists of a harmonious and

balanced āsanas sequence.

Āsanas are a variety of yoga poses or yoga forms,

that are practiced while focusing on attaining a relative state of relaxation.

As we hold our yoga forms we practice breath-work and maintain awareness of our body.

During this stage we engage only the muscles

essential to hold the pose.

We begin each lesson with warming up

the muscles and the joints.

We will practice specific yoga forms with the aim of obtaining steadiness and comfort. All the while following the principles of Patanjali’s Yogasūtras :

Sthira-sukham āsanam, translated from Sanskrit means “the yoga form should be steady and comfortable".

This state of relaxation allows the muscles involved to obtain proper muscle fiber extension.

By focusing on our bodies we are able to relieve our minds from the continuous activity of our thoughts.

The āsanas sequence may include the practice of energetic locks referred to as bandhas and hand gestures referred to as mudrās. In the final part of the lesson we may engage in breathing techniques which are referred to as prānāyāma and or with chanting a mantra
